I was out shopping for paint the other day, and as I sat waiting for my “Mexican Sands” to mix, I ran through the color cards along the wall. I was blown away at the free resource I’d been missing out on. Here sat multiple cards categorized and named by someone whose job was to take an image and give it the most accurate wording possible. Isn’t that our job as writers??
I grabbed about twenty cards, each with around forty color names, and felt like I had stolen from the hardware store. My first use of the cards happened today while working on a webpage for a client. I wanted to describe the water in a painting of hers, so I flipped open my cards, scanned a few, and came across the term: Marble Glass. It was exactly what I needed.
What other places have you found to be great writing resources outside of the library or the classroom? I’d love some more free ideas.
