45 Minute Presentations – Best for large assemblies

The Power of Words – Grades 4-6

In this fun, interactive program, Engle uses her novel Clifton Chase & the Arrow of Light to demonstrate the correlation between world building and people building, because words have power. Students will leave with a clear understanding of the types of bullying and how they can use fiction to find solutions to their problems. A positive focused anti-bullying message.

Finding Your Passion – Grades 6-12

In this presentation, attendees will take a journey through the writing and publication process along with my own personal journey as a writer. This inspirational talk will empower attendees to find their passion, plan their action, and overcome obstacles to achieve success.

Career Day Program – Grades 9-12

Engle shares the many ways to make a living as an author, from ad copy to social media, and encourages students to consider language arts as a career choice.

Finding Ideas & Writing Your Story – Grades 6-12

Engle uses her novels The Dredge & Dreadlands to explain how she creates her novels from ideas that are well researched and outlined to various degrees. While fiction based, students will leave with a clear understanding of the connection between ideas, research, and planning prior to writing.

Story Time – Grades K-3

Engle reads the condensed version of Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light to classrooms and leads students in a discussion on bullying.

Writing Your Story – Grades 3-8

In this workshop, attendees will create their own stories in a step-by-step process to include building characters, constructing a plot, and creating a unique world. Students will leave with a complete outline and story start.

Finding Story Ideas – Grades 3-8

Sometimes it’s hard to start writing. Students will learn several ways to find story ideas for fiction and non-fiction and how to cultivate them into stories.

Show, Don’t Tell – Grades 3-8

In this lesson, students will learn several reasons for showing, not telling in fiction, when to know if you should show or tell, and how to develop the concept in storytelling.

Point of View – Grades 3-8

Point of view changes the way a story is written and how the author tells it. Students will study the various points of view and decide which to use, why, and when.

BONUS:

Family Night – Grades K-6

After an introductory presentation about the process of writing her novel, from the idea to publication, Engle encourages families to interact in a fun game of win-lose-or-draw with book titles and-or Live Mad Libs. The focus on the power of words through image will strengthen the message from the morning presentation while providing an entertaining night.

What in the World? – Grades 6-12

World building is more than just placing characters in a setting. This workshop engages students to create their own unique world by studying the elements and order of building awesome worlds.

Plotting Coincidence & Building Tension – Grades 6-12

In the real world, coincidences happen all the time. Students will learn how to effectively craft and plot a natural coincidence while exploring aspects of increasing tension in fiction.

What Do You THEME? Can you TELL me again? – Grades 6-12

Theme is a huge component in writing a compelling story. Students will discuss common themes and how they affect the hero’s journey with examples in literature. In addition, the concept of when to show and when to tell in writing will be addressed, giving young writers a tool for pacing.

  • School Visit Full Day $800 – Up to 4 sessions (60 min each) + 2 autograph sessions.
